De Beauchamp C of A

I am a big fan of the de Beauchamps, they live up to all the images I have of the Knights of the Middles ages and like their ancestral grandfather the great William Marshall known simply as “The Marshall’ they are larger than life historical figures and seemed to have had impeccable loyalty and integrity for the time.

Born in 1313  Thomas was an English nobleman and military commander during the Hundred Years’ War. In 1348 he became one of the founders and the Third Knight of the Order of the Garter.  He was not unlike his father the very famous Guy de Beauchamp. He had an illustrious career as a Knight and military commander and was so trusted by his King Edward III, he was made Gaurdian of the Kings  sixteen year old son, Edward – Prince of Wales  – more famously known as The Black Prince who also has a grand story of his own.

I just love this effigy below of Thomas and his wife Katherine, for such a violent time in history it is nice to see such a simple and delicate effigy showing their love for each other as they are represented holding hands.  It is safe to say they were very much in love , they had 15 children, 5 sons and 10 daughters.
